Entry Limit

There is a limit of 175 entries for this competition.

Per Entrant Limits

Each entrant is limited to 1 entry per subcategory.

Pay Entry Fees

After creating your account and adding your entries to the system, you must pay your entry fee(s). Accepted payment methods are:

  • Cash
  • Check, made out to MHTG
  • Credit/debit card and e-check, via PayPal

Entry Acceptance Rules

Bottles will be accepted between Saturday, October 7th 2017 and Saturday, October 28th 2017.

For each entry, the brewer must submit:

  • Two 12 oz / 333 ml or larger bottles of beer.  The second bottle is used if your beer advances to the Best Of Show round.
  • 12 oz (or larger) cans will be accepted as well.
  • Bottles and caps should have no labels or identifying marks.
  • Soft drink or other printed crown caps are acceptable if the caps have been blacked out.
  • Attach bottle identification forms to each bottle with a rubber band.
  • A check made out to Madison Homebrewers and Tasters Guild (MHTG) for $7 / entry.
  • Do not print out the recipe sheet or entry sheet.
  • Only one entry per brewer, per subcategory is allowed.
  • Bottles will not be returned.

Packing and Shipping

Carefully pack your entries in a sturdy box. Line the inside of your carton with a plastic trash bag. Partition and pack each bottle with adequate packaging material. Please do not over pack!

Write clearly: Fragile. This Side Up. on the package. Please only use bubble wrap as your packing material.

Enclose each of your bottle labels in a small zip-top bag before attaching to their respective bottles. This way it makes it possible for the organizer to identify specifically which entry has broken if there is damage during shipment.

Every reasonable effort will be made to contact entrants whose bottles have broken to make arrangements for sending replacement bottles.

If you live in the United States, please note that it is illegal to ship your entries via the United States Postal Service (USPS). Private shipping companies have the right to refuse your shipment if they are informed that the package contains glass and/or alcoholic beverages. Be aware that entries mailed internationally are often required by customs to have proper documentation. These entries might be opened and/or returned to the shipper by customs officials at their discretion. It is solely your responsibility to follow all applicable laws and regulations.

Best of Show

The best beer will receive the Best Of Show Medal.

The best Mead or Cider will receive the Hairless Mouse Award.

The best beer with an Original Gravity over 1.060 will will receive The Big And Huge Trophy.

The best French or Belgian style beer will receive The Franco Belgian Cup.

Awards

There will be no formal awards ceremony.

Prizes will be awarded to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place entries at each table.

The best beer will receive the Best Of Show Medal.
